Loretta Lucas, USDF Region 3 GMO Representative and our very own STRIDE member to boot, reported on the latest developments from the USDF Convention held during the first week of December in Savannah, Georgia.

The convention culminated with the Awards Gala Saturday night, December 7th, but in true party animal fashion, Loretta managed to make it to the December 8th Holiday Party hosted by Mimi and Richard Leggett the following afternoon here in Ocala.

A fan favorite of those attending the conference is the auction of horse themed gift baskets. Various GMOs throughout the country put together elaborate creations to represent their area.  Part of the excitement includes a vote for best basket. This year, STRIDE received top honors among GMOs in our division for Best Basket.

The basket, which featured an unmistakable Florida theme, was cleverly placed in an inflatable alligator and included flamingo twinkle lights. Among many goodies in the assemblage were one of a kind had painted grooming brushes by STRIDE member Jody Simonton and a copy of STRIDE member Rita Boehm’s award- winning children’s book. The display was the brainchild of Loretta Lucas, Charlotte Trentleman, and Judy Downer. Way to go!

Rumor is that next year’s theme will focus heavily on Ocala, so get your racehorse memorabilia and other Ocala tokens ready to donate!

Getting down to more serious business…

The west coast will be getting some representation on the USDF Board of Governors with a new vice-president, Kevin Reinig, of California.

There was some discussion about a new adult show category for Vintage Riders and conversation about redefining the Junior/Young Riders category to better align with the FEI description.

Getting down to really serious business… start saving for next year’s event!
